There was little news to impart on Friday, especially as the journal had been distributed in the last few days. We did however enjoy a very interesting presentation by Tony Layne on the basics of clockmaking. Tony also brought along a fine selection of timepieces and equipment for our inspection and entertainment.
For those who had hoped to hear a discussion on the merits of the Velocette LE, courtesy of Geoff Brazendale, we offer our apologies. Geoff had to attend a Management Committee meeting at Allen House that had only been announced after we had already published our 2010 events calendar. So, we swapped the Jan. & Feb. talks around and Geoff will tell us all about LE’s next month.
On a cold and icy evening early in January, a hardy group braved the inclement weather to meet at the Skiddaw Hotel in Keswick for the annual dinner. Most attendees were couples, meaning that almost everyone brought their better halves along too and it was good to see so many of our ladies present. Just under 60 folks had booked for the event but due to the severe conditions several were unable to travel. Nevertheless after a short address by the chairman an excellent meal was enjoyed, followed by the usual awards ceremony and a seemingly never-ending raffle. Fortunately, the raffle brought in just enough money to pay for the engraving of the awards. There followed a good round of table swapping for chats with old friends before the evening concluded at around 11.15 which was plenty late enough given that many people had a distance to travel. Thanks to all who attended for making the evening such a pleasant event.
